About the Performance
Acclaimed throughout the world the Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe have been at the forefront of baroque performance for thirty years. In this, its Festival debut, this exquisite choir performs highly personal and heartfelt works by Stravinsky and Bruckner in which each composer reaffirms, in different ways, their own deep spirituality.
Stravinsky's setting for a Roman Catholic Mass is a sumptuous blend of voices and wind instruments. Bruckner's strong Catholic faith produced some of the most wonderful music in the 19th century sacred choral repertoire, and nowhere is that more evident than in his Mass in E minor.
