About the Performance
The overture to Weber's opera Oberon is one of his most popular and elegant works. The spirit of romanticism burns bright in Schumann's much loved piano concerto, performed in this concert by exuberant soloist Hélène Grimaud. Richard Strauss's tone poem Ein Heldenleben is a masterpiece of musical narrative and characterisation, weaving the episodes in the life of a fictional hero around a texture of rare orchestral colour and virtuosity.
Reviews

‘The Dresdeners make a marvellous soft-grained sound, with brass playing of ethereal delicacy.'

- The Daily Telegraph

‘Grimaud brings her characteristic electricity to every moment she touches.'

- The Philadelphia Inquirer
